Ten at 10: We interview South African Singer, ChianoSky!
Fiery, sassy and sexy, we can only use those words on one incredible woman, ChianoSky! Today on the GoTrendSA “Ten at 10” we get to know a little more about what makes ChianoSky tick, the journey she’s taken to become the successful artist of today and most importantly, the heatwave that’s about to hit – her new album, Inferno!
GoTrendSA: ChianoSky, thanks for joining us on GoTrendSA, tell us a little more about yourself!
ChianoSky: I have been singing since I was 10 years old, I attended The National School Of The Arts where I studied Contemporary Music. My favourite colour is yellow and “ChianoSky” is indeed my real name! I am signed to an independent label, ‘FutureNow Records’ in Cape Town. Before I step on any stage I always play one of my favourite songs Got To Give It Up by Marvin Gaye!
GoTrendSA: So, we’ve been following you ever since the release of your first album, “Hungry” and we know its all too soon before you drop your next one! Can you give us a little scoop?
ChianoSky: It’s titled “INFERNO.” This album draws inspiration from sex appeal of the late 60’s early 70’s – THE ERA OF LOVE! Where artists such as Diana Ross had sexy whispering intro’s into their songs, where Donna Summer made us ‘feel love’ through disco and where Marvin Gaye was the Soul, funk groove king expressing heated romances of that time in the most honest sensual way! Without forgetting we are in the 21st century I wanted to modernise my vision with the influence of OUTER space with its planets and stars imagining my emotions and lifestyle set in space and incorporating those sounding pop synths in the music to making my own fresh genre for the album called, “cosmic pop” music for people who are out of this world!
GoTrendSA: We love your sense of style, when it comes to choosing outfits and clothing combinations what inspires you?
ChianoSky: Fashion allows us to create our own identity and that’s the most amazing power to have! I like being spontaneous and sexy with fashion, mixing up expensive items with bargain buy items and not being afraid to wear things that leave may leave a question mark in other peoples minds! I usually pair up different characters with each outfit – having fun with fashion is important to me and making sure that things fit according to my body type is also important.
GoTrendSA: Apart from singing and being a fashion model, what are some of your favourite hobbies?
ChianoSky: I have always been an artistic girl, so some of my hobbies include drawing and painting and I also like making my own jewellery items!
GoTrendSA: ChianoSky, where do you want to see yourself in 5 years from now?
ChianoSky: Five years from now I hope to be a worldwide established artist, collaborating on projects with artists that I most admire, expanding Futurenow records worldwide and hopefully will have my own successful shoe line too!
GoTrendSA: Having experienced the industry, is there anything you would have done differently?
ChianoSky: No, going through all these obstacles (good or bad) has made me wiser and stronger for my new journey with Inferno. Going forward I know exactly who I want involved in my project and how I want to execute it.
GoTrendSA: What inspires you when it comes to music and lyrics?
ChianoSky: So many aspects of life inspire my music and lyric. You write about your emotional experiences in life, sometimes you write stories around things you have witnessed in life and other times like this album you write about your visions in life and moments that you want to concrete forever. I like writing on instrumentals, that excite the hell out of me!
GoTrendSA: What advice do you have for any aspiring singers in South Africa?
ChianoSky: It is important to involve yourself in as many musical projects as possible whether being competitions, school concerts or even jam sessions. One should also keep a musical journal and write as many songs as possible it does not have to be perfect but it definitely helped me growing up. I started writing when I was 14 years old. It is also good to drink lots of water and remember to be open and ready for any musical challenge as you don’t know where it may take you next!
