It’s always a treat when we get to explore local talent going big, especially when it comes to our favourite topic, fashion! Media personality, model and designer Matthias Matthee has taken the world in his hands and is about to launch one of the most desirable fashion brands yet. We’ve got the scoop today on GoTrendSA on what’s next for the local designer and what his journey in Berlin is preparing him for!
Matthias has self taught knowledge of crafting and designing with leather and once he saw the opportunity to work with popular bespoke designer, Augustine he grabbed the opportunity. Matthias held the position as lead accessories manager and of course designed some of their most creative pieces for their SS15 debut at Cape Town Menswear week. But while he was climbing the ladder he just knew deep down that his love for design had to be expressed further with his own work and brand.
That’s when the idea for a launch in Berlin came along, Matthias has already secured a few boutiques that will stock his range of leather bags and accessories. Which is amazing as a local designer to reach that level of success. He explains that reaching a target market in an already established Berlin, helps stimulate his creativity and mix with an already established market.
Matthias has always been a natural when it comes to working with design and fashion. Staying up to date with fashion and trends has always been important to him: “I do design and make leather jackets and other simple easy to wear street style clothing.” Matthias explains that his leather jackets are somewhat legendary and that people rave over them! Because he was self taught in crafting with leather, Matthias has learned to design without limits which makes him pretty unique! With his unique perspective on street style, people have noticed how his customised designs have brought about a change in local fashion.
The next stop for Matthias is for a label in Dusseldorf named, Esde Bags he’s going to be working with production for the up and coming prestigious event, Paris Fashion Week! Then it’s time to head home and officially launch the brand here – all we know is, it’s going to be big!
