It’s not often that we get to report back on such an exciting device, so we’ll just jump right into it. The Nokia 8 is here and it’s taken the world by storm with it’s incredible new features. Now we’ll be the first to admit that we were also shocked that they had partnered up with android to power up their new range of devices, but oh boy, were we intrigued when we first turned on the device… A phone that surprised us this much has a lot you need to know!
The Nokia 8, launched earlier this year has finally hit South African shelves and finding its way into the lives of many SA Tech users. The phones, at amazing price points, have weirdly enough caputured out hearts with the nostalgic brand of Nokia combined with powerful Android OS and an Octa-core installed CPU. If we had to describe this phone in a word, it would be “snappy” and of course it’s easy on the eyes:
The Nokia 8 undergoes a rigorous 40-stage process of machining, anodizing and polishing to ensure its distinctive design pairs flawlessly with the polished aluminium unibody. The ultimate in seamless unibody construction, Nokia 8 is designed to nestle perfectly in the palm of your hand. – Nokia
The look for Nokia’s new range is absolutely beautiful and we’re loving the sleekness of the phone that many other manufacturers are forgetting these days, even with such a powerful camera the design doesn’t let it protrude which means it a easy slide in and out of your pocket.
Now, what we’re really here to talk about to today is the epic feature from the new Nokia 8, called a “bothie”. What’s that? Yes, a bothie! The bothie is the trendy word for Nokia’s dual sight camera, it lets you take a photo using the front of your phone and the back at the exact same time. It’s an epic way to express your creativity in the newest way, but you can check out our demo vid below for the full run through!
The Nokia 8 features a 13 MP dual image-fusion rear camera with both colour and monochrome sensors, plus a wide-angle 13 MP phase detection auto-focus front camera. Both front and rear cameras are equipped with ZEISS optics, meaning every snapshot moment becomes a story worth sharing. Nokia didn’t joke when they said they were upping their camera game, it’s pretty incredible to see how they packed in 13mp cameras front an back and managed to keep the phone so slim!
Now this may be an obvious point to talk about, but we just had to include that the Nokia 8 does extremely well battery wise under everyday use. With a high consumption of Camera use, constant social media and picture taking the 3090mah Li-Ion battery lasted us roughly 1.5 days where as other phones just can’t compete. It’s quite a unique feeling to know that you can leave the house without worrying about packing a cable or powerbank!
We’re pretty confident to say that the 8, along with their other ranges are going to kill it here in South Africa. At killer price points, the phones tackle other manufacturer giants with the same tech at half the price! It’s actually weird to end off a post with such a happy review, when last did we get tech that just works? Congrats Nokia!
