On 17 February 2016, MIA South Africa announced that the Redmi Note 2 will become available at participating (online) retailers from this week onwards. Priced at R2,999, Redmi Note 2 comes with a 2.0GHz MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core chipset, originally designed to power high-end flagship phones due to its ability to deliver outstanding performance.
“At R2,999 we are bringing the 5.5” form factor within reach of the majority of smartphone users in the country” according to RJ van Spaandonk, President of MIA “Many comparable smartphones sell at double the price, and none of them retail below R4,000.”
Commenting on the product’s specifications, he said that “South Africans will love Redmi Note 2, which is packed with top-end specs that outperform all devices in this price segment, as well as a high-quality camera that captures amazing pictures.”
Redmi Note 2 can be ordered online immediately from Takealot and MIA Africa and will go on sale at selected outlets of Dion Wired, Game, Incredible Connection and Makro starting next week.
The flagship-grade 64-bit Helio X10 processor has eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores, all of which can be utilised when necessary for performance intensive tasks. Combined with 2GB dual-channel LPDDR3 RAM and 16GB memory, Redmi Note 2 delivers a smooth performance even when running demanding tasks and complex games.
Redmi Note 2 comes with a 5.5-inch full HD display that is fully laminated, which delivers stunning clarity and vibrant colours. Sunlight Display dynamically adjusts the screen for crystal-clear images even under direct sunlight.
With a 13MP rear camera, Redmi Note 2 takes gorgeous pictures, especially when paired with Xiaomi’s industry-leading HDR mode. Now with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), a technology typically found in DSLR cameras, Redmi Note 2 is able to focus on an image in just 0.1s and capture fleeting moments with ease. For those who love taking selfies, the front-facing 5MP camera with ƒ/2.0 aperture is the perfect tool, made even better with the Beautify function.
Despite being lightweight at only 160g and just 8.25mm in thickness, Redmi Note 2 packs a 3060mAh 4.4V high-density battery that offers up to 120 hours on standby. The removable battery also supports quick charging.
Redmi Note 2 ships with MIUI 7, which has a colourful interface and a wide variety of personalisation options.
