Samsung has pulled the covers off the Galaxy S26 FE, and it arrives carrying a notable first. This is the debut device in the entire Galaxy S26 family to ship with One UI 9 straight out of the box, which means South Africans get Samsung’s newest software and AI features without waiting for them to trickle down from the pricier flagships. It reaches local shelves on 4 September 2026, starting at R15,499.
The “FE” (Fan Edition) formula stays true to what it has always been: take the best bits of the flagship Galaxy S26 line and deliver them at a friendlier price. This year, the pitch leans hard into two things, cameras and AI.
A camera built with creators in mind
The triple rear setup pairs a 50MP wide sensor with a 12MP ultra-wide and an 8MP telephoto offering 3x optical zoom, backed by a beefed-up 12MP front camera for selfies and group shots. The standout for content creators is My FanCam, which automatically tracks a chosen subject and keeps them centred as a scene moves, reframing video on the fly so you spend less time editing. Super Steady with Horizontal Lock keeps fast-moving footage smooth and level, while Nightography carries the Galaxy S series low-light reputation over to the FE.
Once the shot is taken, Photo Assist lets you tidy up images using plain-language prompts (adjusting lighting, removing or adding elements, restoring missing bits), and Gemini Omni can turn your Gallery clips into polished, share-ready videos complete with music and transitions.
Galaxy AI, switched on from day one
Running the latest One UI 9, the S26 FE brings Samsung’s context-aware Galaxy AI along for the ride. Now Brief serves up personalised cards you can create with a simple prompt, Now Nudge surfaces timely suggestions across more of your apps, and Circle to Search can now identify several items in a single image at once. Gemini Live handles real-time, hands-free conversations, and Gemini can string together multi-step tasks from a single request, doing the busywork on your behalf.
The everyday essentials
The screen is a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a bright 1,900 nits, which should hold up nicely against harsh South African sunlight. A 4,900mAh battery keeps things going, with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging, all wrapped in a slim 7.4mm, 193g body. Under the hood sits the 3nm Exynos 2500, with Wi-Fi 6E along for the ride.
Samsung is also pushing longevity hard here: seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates, so this phone is built to stay current for years. An upgraded Smart Switch makes moving over from Android or iOS painless, Samsung Care+ covers you against mishaps, and buyers get a six-month trial of Google AI Pro (with 5TB of cloud storage, valued at R429.99 per month) thrown in.
