SS2015 channels the summer of love this fashion season!

201511352S As the nights grow shorter and the days warm up, Spree has officially launched their Spring/Summer 2015 collection and campaign online. Spree is also pleased to announce local celeb and movie actor; Maps Maponyane will star in their summer TV ad.

“This year, the campaign moved away from the predictability of flowers for a summer season and saw us shooting between cacti,” says Spree Fashion Director, Chris Viljoen. “The shoot had another worldly feeling, creating a cactus playground for Maps and Morgan, our models on the day. It epitomised the fun and carefree feeling of festivals, while not detracting from the trends for the season.”

“With Seventies influences, statement stripes, fresh denim and all white at centre stage this summer – we are channelling the summer of love, as music festivals have proven to be the largest source of inspiration for the season,” says Viljoen. “Expect to see everything from oversized Seventies sunglasses to multi-tiered bohemian dresses.”

The retro bohemian trend is taking up the fashion scene in a big way this season. “Trousers kicking out from the thigh into a generous flare, tassel tops, crochet knit kimonos and billowing bell sleeve dresses will embody street style this summer,” says Womenswear Category Manager for Spree, Lezell Peter.

Statement Stripes

The stripe has pushed forward this summer in an array of forms. From horizontal pinstripes to thicker block-coloured stripes – big, bold, fun and sometimes serious, the stripe is back with a bang! “The great thing about stripes is that they are easy to pair with other prints and bold colours,” says Peter.

Do Denim

A season-less favourite, denim makes another return this season. “Denim has been the trend for Autumn/Winter 2015, and for Spring/Summer – anything denim goes! From high rise flare leg to A-line button through skirts, culottes and pinafores – the Seventies influence is the biggest trend in denim. Distressed boyfriend jeans with a relaxed fit are also on top of the denim trend list, as is white denim,” says Peter.

All-White

Clean and simple – white is an ageless shade, fresh and in style this season. An all-white palette featuring lace, cut-outs, pleats and other feminine details will be radiating white heat this summer.

As we transition from winter to summer, distressed jeans are working their way into the wardrobes of men. A tried and trusted item of clothing that wears perfectly.  Be sure to keep your shades of denim light for the summer season. “The lighter the blue, the better,” says Viljoen.

Tropical Prints

Stronger, edgier and altogether more rebellious, tropical prints have taken on a more masculine air. From t-shirts to vests, trousers to shorts, tropical prints will separate the boys from the men this summer. “Stick to subdued colour palettes and pair with neutral wardrobe staples if you are new to the trend,” says Viljoen.

Stripes

A perennial Spring/Summer classic, stripes are one of the easiest patterns to pull off for men. “We’re seeing that year after year, stripes continue to cement their place in the modern man’s wardrobe,” says Viljoen. Opt for subtle stripes or even more vivid block or wide stripes in pants and shirts.

Monochrome

With a deep-rooted history in fashion, monochrome remains a hit for men this season. “It is a timeless look that will never go out of fashion – it is practical and can be dressed up or down,” ends Viljoen. A key trend for the season, monochrome works well in lightweight sweaters, t-shirts and sneakers.
