Russian Bear Vodka is a brand that celebrates creativity in urban culture. This year, the brand took to the streets of Mzansi to find the country’s best lyricist in the #IAMNEXT campaign, recording the best breakout artists throwing down their dopest tracks in Russian Bear Vodka’s mobile recording studio. After visiting five cities and hearing from 480 contestants, one recording was selected by the masses!
Eastern Cape’s, Caleb Heynes worked with Psyko Beats to prove he was ready for the next level and won #IAMNEXT. Heynes was given the opportunity to collaborate with five time platinum rapper, Kwesta, to release the ultimate breakout track. Produced by Makwa Beats and released by Raplyf Records, Heynes got his first taste of the big time when he dropped his collab single live at the Umshubhelo Festival with Kwesta on Saturday, 16 December 2017.
“Weeks of blood, sweat and soul were poured into this track. With multiple lyrical tweaks and backtrack adjustments, this track is ready to set the scene on fire. The crowd were ready and totally game, their shouts of support and excitement were electric,” says Russian Bear Brand Manager, Simone Burns.
Spending time in the studio with Kwesta, Heynes picked up some next level skills from the rapper.
“I felt ready to unleash in front of the Umshubhelo Festival Crowd. Kwesta is such an inspiration, dropping out of high school to chase his dreams and starting a label to usher in new talent. He is an undeniable inspiration to the entertainment industry. Kwesta knows how to play the game. When it came time to drop our track, I was ready and tuned in, because I had faith in my lessons from the master,” says Heynes.
Also sharing the stage at Umshubhelo this past Reconciliation Day was AKA, Black Motion, Emtee, Amanda Black, Sjava, TLT, Yanga, Euphonic, Killer Kau, Shimza and more.
“It was totally unreal walking with some of SA’s musical giants. Thank you Russian Bear for giving me the opportunity. I’m just so thankful for all of the amazing people behind the scenes,” says Heynes.
